It’s been a while since we ran a blog on our involvement in the Gelclad project and thought it was about time for an update.
Just to remind you that Gelclad is part of the Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation programme. Horizon 2020 is the financial instrument implementing the Innovation Union, a Europe 2020 flagship initiative aimed at securing Europe’s global competitiveness.
The project is progressing as planned with many meetings and trials conducted across Europe.
Dr Luis Enriquez, ecodek® Technical Manager, was invited a couple of weeks ago by Bangor University to attend an update with BioComposites at their Mona Facility, where they would be showcasing their projects. During the visit, Luis met with Julie James Assembly Member for Swansea West, Minister for Skills and Science which is our photo of the week. Luis also spoke with various members of staff discussing the future opportunities for ecodek®’s dynamic growth and collaboration with Bangor University.
Luis and Matthew Buck, Laboratory Technician, have also recently attended a meeting with another one of our EU funded projects, SMART-plant, which was followed by a visit to Minworth Sewage treatment works.
So you may be thinking, what is SMART-Plant? Well, it aims to support the water sector to deliver circular economy and ensure environmental protection, become more adaptive and to respond to contemporary environmental and societal challenges by introducing innovative technological solutions, moving towards resource recovery approaches in wastewater management.
The ecodek® team of Technologists are always busy working in our on-site laboratory, looking for exciting and innovative ways to improve current products and develop new ones.

Our guest blogger next week will be Angela Hind, Sales Manager. Angela has just returned from a week in Lebanon where she was part of a charity effort. We look forward to reading about the experiences she and the other members of the effort had, an inspiring read, we are sure!
