Elephant & Castle, London

The redevelopment of Elephant & Castle is one of the most important developments in the world. Situated in London’s Zone 1, it offers an exciting opportunity to transform a central area of a major world city.

The developer, Lend Lease, are determined it should be more than that: an opportunity to transform thinking about urban redevelopment and what it can achieve – not only on a local scale, but also on a global one.

So, as well as building nearly 3,000 new homes and a brand new park right in the heart of Elephant & Castle, Lend Lease are also seeking to use the scale, location and profile of this project to address pressing local and global challenges around climate change, housing, health, employment and crime.

Ecodek have been supplying both ecodek® AT 21mm and Classic 25mm decking board products to the site, working with a number of our Key Installation Contractors. The product has been used extensively throughout the complex – primarily within the Balconies which have been constructed off-site, and then delivered to site and installed as completed “bolt-on” solutions – reducing the build time and increasing efficiency.

The ecodek® material for this immense project is supplied through a Chain of Custody process that provides full traceability for all our products. The process records the entire path between the ‘forest gate’ and the end user, including the intermediate stages of manufacture, storage, sales and distribution. The Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC) helps take care of forests and the people and wildlife who call them home. FSC® is an international, non-governmental organisation dedicated to promoting responsible management of the World’s forests.
